Where, What, & Why to Visit Banff

So I've only been to Canada twice therefore I haven't explored the entire country but what I have done I've absolutely loved and I'll tell you all about it today. Canada is an amazing place to visit and especially safe to solo in my opinion. There are a ton of activities to do there depending on what season you visit in. During the summer there are plenty of hikes and lakes, while in the summer its great for skiing or snowboarding!

If you go in the winter I highly recommend going to Banff. The nearest airport will be Calgary, I stayed the night there before and after my flights to be safe. At the airport I rented a car and drove myself to Banff. Be extra careful when its snowing the roads can be quite slippery.

Banff might easily be one of the prettiest winter destinations I've been to and this is coming from a girl who visits Park City and Breckenridge every year. Downtown looks like a set in a Christmas romance movie. They have winter hikes, skiing, snowshoeing, and even a wolf sanctuary.

Visiting the wolves at https://www.yamnuskawolfdogsanctuary.com was such a unique experience and they really are doing good work. They are a non-profit Sanctuary dedicated to driving awareness and education surrounding wolf dog ownership. I didn't realize how many people buy wolfs and realize they can't handle them. It's actually sad how neglected these beautiful animals are because of selfish people.

I never realized people hike during the winter but I was surprised to find a lot of people going to Johnston Canyon Upper Falls. After that hike I went to the infamous Lake Louise where I ran around the ice castles. It was a very snowy day so I wasn't able to see the mountains behind the lake so try to go on a semi sunny day. Lake Minnewanka is a massive lake around Banff that freezes over during the winter. I walked wayyy out in the middle it was gorgeous.

I also really loved visiting Park Distillery Restaurant and Bar for some local made gin. Fun fact- that's the first time I tried a French 75 which is now my favorite drink. Its pretty strong but we love that, don't we? When I travel I like to visit local breweries, I think its part of learning about the city.. and I just really love beer. Check out Banff Ave Brewery Co if you love some beer flights.

I stayed at Elk + Avenue Hotel , the prices were affordable, it was clean, and the location was great. I didn't know until I got there that there were hostels so if you are looking for a cheaper stay check out Samesun Backpackers Lodge. There is a bar called The Beaver Bar which I had so much fun in meeting people. They have a shot wheel you can spin and even a shot ski.. took too many shots at that bar but had so much fun.

This is by far one of my favorite blogs I wrote because I love Banff so much and really did a lot in the 5 days I spent visiting there. Thankfully the borders are open again and we can visit because its been a long 2 years boarding the country and not being able to visit.

If you have some time to check out Toronto I also highly recommend doing that, I have a blog for there also don't worry :)
