Places to Visit in Costa Rica

The first time I went to Costa Rica was January of this year. I was almost mad at myself for not visiting sooner. How is the gem of a country so close to me and I never explored it? I trust the timing of the universe and im thankful I was able to explore it for 2 weeks because I found some amazing towns. So where should you visit?

Samara

The first town I was able to spend time in besides my flight into San Jose (which you can skip visiting by the way). I have a whole Samara Blog if you'd like to learn more about the town. Long story short, its the perfect mix between chill and party. Its an absolute hidden gem not many people know about or visit from people I spoke to. I also have a whole vlog about my day in Samara here you can watch :) https://youtu.be/ENH58IsfvVo

Also If you're in the area and want a tattoo I highly recommend checking out https://www.instagram.com/tintaarte_tattoo/?igshid=5nvbv8fvwjb7&hl=en

Montezuma

Almost a 4 hour bus ride from Samara is a little town called Montezuma tucked away on the beach. When I say little town I mean get prepared for 2 main roads and that's it. If you want some quite beach time this is the spot for you. There are still plenty of cute little restaurants to try such as Balcon Del Mar and Chicos Bar. Here you can also find quite a bit of actives like ATV's, Boat Rides, and The Montezuma Waterfall. I would suggest skipping the paid tour and doing it yourself. There are 3 waterfalls and its super easy to get to the first one about a 10 minute walk on the river bed. I walked from my Hostel Pura Vida hostel and it was only a 8 minute walk. There are two ways to access the upper waterfalls, the paid way which is 1000 colonies or the Tico way which at one point you're rock climbing. I did both and personally loved the harder way up. Once you get to the falls look to the back right side you'll see a path. Just basically follow the path and if you can't find it, look for ropes and foot trails.

Santa Teresa

If you're in the mood to meet some cool people stop on over to Santa Teresa, only a 40 minute taxi ride from Montezuma. I suggest going here after Montezuma and trying to visit on a weekend where there's more going on. The Sunsets here are probably some of the best I've seen and the best in Costa Rica. I loved going to the little market, grabbing a beer, and gathering with all of my new friends to sit around and watch the sunset. I actually ended up getting 2 hand poked tattoos at Mojo Tattoo.
