First let me start off by saying if you have been wanting to visit Peru.. Do it! Dont let my opinion or anyone opinions affect your travel plans. I personally didn't like Spain and loved Italy while I have friends who hate Italy and love Spain. Traveling is subjective its all based on what YOU like and want to get out of the experience. With that being said, I personally did not like my time in Peru. I did have some local friends there who showed me around so I was really fortunate to get a more authentic experience; which is what im pushing for more this year.
If you're a foodie and love to try new dishes this is the perfect country for you. I had some of the best food here.. I mean don't get me started on the ceviche! If you're more into alcohol and trying local drinks (like me) dont forget to try a Pisco sour. Be careful though and drink them slowly, one will fuck you up pretty good. If you're a bad ass like my friend Angie then just chug it and get it over with.
To my surprise I found out that Peru is a massive country. If you want to get anywhere other than Lima dont be surprised by the long ass rides you'll have to take. I didn't get to visit Cusco (which I regret) but to get there its a whole flight. The infamous Oasis Desert is about a 4 hour ride away. Not fun for a girlie who gets car sick.
The locals in Peru are so so nice. I felt very welcomed and honestly quite safe but I wasn't traveling alone I was with my best friend/travel buddy. We really enjoyed walking the coast line in Lima just watching the families spend their Sunday afternoon. There was even a cute little art market going on in a park we stumbled across.
Side note- If you love your drone like me, consider leaving it at home. The drone laws are pretty strict and if you get stopped in customs they could potentially take it away. I was super lucky to get by without being stopped. I actually didn't know how serious it was until I spoke with my friend there. Opps. Anything for the shot though you know what im sayinnnnn.
jk I respect the rules always.
Anyways, I am super thankful I had the chance to go because it was my first time in South America and I learned how much I want more authentic experiences moving forward this year. I welcomed the new year in by spending it in a small fishing village surrounded by complete strangers and it was freaking awesome. If you've been wanting to visit Peru dont let me stop you. Do ya thanggg and have fun!!
