Long story short.. yes, I feel like Croatia is totally safe to solo travel! I've traveled to Split, Brač and Hvar all alone and have felt completely safe in each city.
I've spoke a lot about Europe but in general its one of the easiest places to travel solo in my opinion.
To my surprise I also find it very clean and quite affordable. I've been traveling here during the start of the busy season though so it might be a bit different when it gets packed here especially for yacht week. May or Early June seem to be in the sweet spot when it comes to the best time to visit.
Back to the safety of this place, I've roamed all of the streets drunk and haven't for a second felt worried. The only downfall I would say about being in Croatia is the way the Croatian men act. I've only felt like I was being starred at to the point of being uncomfortable in one other country and that was Egypt. Men here just act like they've never seen a women. I passed a guy and he was saying "meow meow" to me and just last night a guy from a bar I was walking pass threw a ice cube at me. A women really is just a piece of meat to them but I just learned to walk passed them and not make any eye contact or give them attention. Which sucks thats the reality but nothing ever happens passed the usually stare or cat call.
In conclusion, Croatia really is an amazing country with the most gorgeous islands and im so happy I came here to explore a few of them. I've extended my stay twice now. Much like how I feel about Portugal I should've came to this country years ago!
Side Note- I felt the less looked at when I found myself in super touristy area's such as Old Town in Split and the busy part of Hvar. Dont let that stop you.. fuck them and let them stare. You're probably hot anyways!
Also if a guy throws an ice cube at you. throw it back or go dump his drink on him. I wish I would've done that thinking about it now.
Cheers - T
